  • Happy birthday Carolyn! It seems like yesterday and also like eons ago. When we were in Eau Claire last month we saw both houses that you lived in. Fun memories! By the way, Deboe, who knit that wonderfully adorable floppy hat??? ;)

  • I was on my spring break from the University of Tennessee-Martin. After spending several days up in Eau Claire, (Betsy, was that the trip where you came with me?) hoping for you to be born, I had to get going. Your Mom went into labor after I had gone back to Whitefish Bay, but before I had returned to Tennessee. Ron called to tell us that Deb had been in labor forever, and that he'd call when he had some news. After what seemed like an eternity of waiting (understatement for you two, eh Deb and Ron?) the phone rang while we were watching Days of Our Lives.(That's why you loved that show, Carolyn!) "A girl!!!" All I remember was that I did a Tom Cruise impression by jumping up and sown on the couch and was screaming and shouting and hugging with those who were about to be Grandma and Grampa for the first time. I think Betsy was there, but Chrissie and Johnny were at school. It was such a happy time. Debbie sent pictures in a couple of weeks by mail, after I returned to Tenn. (no instant gratification with digital Picture Boy shots!)Turns out I didn't get to meet you until I returned home for my birthday(?)in April with my friend Karen, and you were in WFB. Wasn't your baptism, was it? You were so beautiful and such a perfect angel. It was the beginning of a whole new era, and our lives were enriched beyond measure.
Oh, Din, Din, Jo Jo, we love you! Hope your day was very happy!

  • Thank you so much everyone. Your stories had me laughing and in tears. Thanks so much for sharing. It was hard yesterday when I realized no more happy birthday duets from Grandma and Grandpa. That was hard. I can still hear her voice singing.
Love you guys! Hope we get to see some of you on Sunday. It's been TOO LONG!

  • Lindsay, that was so funny. We OFTEN called/call little Carolyn "peanut".

By the way, did you know that before you were born, your Dad always referred to Carolyn as "blondie"?

Julia, speaking of cute, just LOOK at your profile picture!

Chrissie, "So what's new with you?" (Eau Claire back seat with Carolyn in her car seat)

Betsy and Johnny, no points for you!

Joannie, I'd totally forgotten that you didn't get to meet Carolyn until her baptism. That was another happy day. I wore a different floppy hat that day! Carolyn fell asleep as soon as the water hit her head. I'd never seen that before. These comments made me laugh/cry/laugh/cry. Oh so many memories - Life is good.

Thanks everyone - I needed that!

    Love ya,

  • Hey, I work for a living!!
Anyway, I called and sang to her on her birthday. But oh what a beautiful girl!! Then and now!!

Yes Joannie, I was there with you, in Eau Claire waiting for Debbie to go into labor and then I was with you, jumping on the couch!! What a happy day!! It's hard to believe we had to wait so long to see her!!!

Carolyn, I've saved my birthday song from the Simon's where we can hear Grandma's voice. At the end she even sings by herself "grandma" - I'll play it for you... maybe I can even forward it to you???

I've got to go to work now! Love you all!
