The Original Little Miss Sunshine

What a happy day that was 31 years ago today...I was home for spring break from the University of Tennessee . I was sitting on the living room couch at 523 Henry Clay watching Days of our Lives with Betsy and Grandma(probably something about Roman or Marlena having amnesia after being drugged by Stefano) when we heard the news. I think John and Chrissie were at school? I lost my mind and started jumping on the couch like Tom Cruise. We were all so happy, and excited and relieved, because it had been a long nervous time waiting. There must be a connection to why you have an interest in watching Days! You gave us so much joy, Carolyn, and you continue to do the same. Have a wonderful day, and know how much you are loved!

P.S. The dress is the one that Don and I gave you for Christmas,1977. This picture is at our upper flat in Shorewood on Christmas Eve, the night we premiered the Carolyn Caroleers tape. One of the happiest Christmases ever. Also, thanks for letting Lindsay borrow the dress for her 18th month picture!

  • When life gets hard, all I have to do is think of the absolutely amazing group of "next generation" family that has been brought into the world, beginning with the incredibly talented Din Din Jo Jo, and I know that we all are doing something right. Every one of these cousins is a talented, kind, consideratem, amazing person, and I for one think the credit goes to that delightful man who said Good morning to Carolyn in German. He taught us all to see the good in everything. The rest is history. Happy Birthday, Carolyn Joanne. You were the first one to teach all of us grownups about how a child's mind works. And now we are all teachers who say too bad. Enought silliness...have a great day!

  • I wonder what consideratem means?

  • Must be the valium... your fingers are loose as a goose. How'd you get from e to m, though?

  • Love that Vicodin!! I can see how Brett got hooked.

With your gambling history Chrissie, you should be careful. It all started with Kohls bingo...then you just couldn't stop...

  • I want you to know that I went back twice to try and figure out what Chrissie was trying to say. I figured that she was trying to hit the comma.

My problem with the darling picture of Joannie and Carolyn is that when I look at it, it truly does seem like about a week ago. Those days are just so vivid to me.

You have all said and shown such wonderful things on this blog today. It has truly meant a lot to me. For some reason I'm feeling so . . . . well I don't know exactly how I'm feeling. It's just been such an emotional year. Last year was so difficult at this time, and it's been heavy on my heart that her 30th was so hard. This year has been WONDERFUl, with both children doing so much better. I got to spend the morning with Carolyn and her wonderful class making whole wheat pancakes for a birthday party! How surprising life can be.

Thank you all for making the day so much more fun. We really are just so very blessed aren't we?

    Love ya all,

  • Boy Joannie, you sure came up with that picture fast! Well done! And aren't they both just the cutest in that dress?
