The Newest Member of our Family

Yes, it's true. We have adopted a crayfish from Mrs. Schneider's 3rd grade classroom. Ryan has named him Steve. Steve is still a bit traumatized by the move and his new surroundings, but we are certain that he will soon get used to the loud frenzied world of our kitchen counter.

We are all hopeful that Ryan will keep up on his daily duty of feeding steve and of changing his water every couple days. I just found out that crayfish can live up to 5 years...so I am so VERY grateful to Pat for signing the permission slip (that I could have sworn I'd thrown in the garbage) to allow the adoption of Steve.

Luckily he moves slow enough that he has not caught the attention of Tickles & Teaser.

Wish us luck as we adjust to this new addition to our family...

  • How exciting! I actually ate some of his relatives while I was in New Orleans. Please don't tell Steve,or Ryan, or we might get off to a bad start. I hope(?) he brings you at least as much joy as our beloved late hermit crabs Bashful and Seaweed, not to mention the much adored Ishy and her recently departed roommate, Purdy. In other words,(don't tell Ryan) my sympathies! (We are now starting our eighth year with Ishy) AAHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Maybe you could introduce Teasers and Tickles to Steve! I'm sure that they'd be VERY interested. Just Kidding (?) Welcome to the family Steve. I hope that you are Presbyterian. It really helps.

    Love, Deboe

P.S. JOANNIE - I love the picture too, but after spending the whole morning trying, I cannot get past the "Have the post editor put it into HTML". There is no Post Editor anywhere and if there is I hate her/him/it. My original picture has Aaron's web address in it, so I think he helped by cycling it through his stuff. I'll talk to him tonight. I'M DONE WITH IT!

But I do love the picture too. If I had the original I'd have cropped it long ago. Could you scan and send it to me? It's one of my many favorite childhood memories. And it was on WALDEN POND! What a glorious day that was!

  • Could you fill the rest of us in on what picture you are talking about?? It's not nice to keep secrets on the family blog.

  • I thought the same thing. Although it is clear that she was trying to post said picture...so when she figures it out...we'll be in the know!!!!

Don't give up Debbie!!! Is Lindsay our post editor????
